Shell Show 29 October, 2011

On the last Saturday in October, the club Shell Show takes place from 9.00am to 5pm. Admission is free. Bring a friend. It is an opportunity to meet other members and to seek advice from experienced collectors. Members are encouraged to create display tables for the prize competitions for categories such as One Species, British Marine, Caribbean or in specialities such as Shell art, shell postage stamps. Marine, freshwater and land specimens are shown.

About 10 to 15 shell dealers take table space for display and offer for sale shells to suit both beginner's and expert's budgets.

Access by car
Theydon Bois is on the edge of Epping Forest between Loughton and Epping in Essex. It is close to the M25 Junction 26 (Waltham Abbey), and Junctions 5 (Loughton, northbound exit only) and 7 (Harlow/Epping) of the M11.

The village Hall is opposite the Village Green.

Major prizes at the Show

The Conchologists of America Award for the exhibit with the best overall judged score.
The Scotia Shield for the exhibit or shell which, in the judges opinion, best promotes interest in British Conchology.
The Peter Oliver Cup for the best educational exhibit, awarded at the judges' discretion.
The Walter Karo Trophy for the best single shell of the show, awarded at the judges' discretion.
The John Fisher Trophy for the best Junior exhibit as decided by the judges.


Enter for the 2011 Show Competition

The competition classes for 2011 are to be confirmed. For 2010 they were:
  1. One species
  2. One genus or family
  3. British - marine, land or freshwater
  4. Foreign - marine, land or freshwater
  5. Self-made shell art
  6. Shell Photography - up to 15” x 12” including any border, caption, etc. MAy be orientated portrait or landscape.
  7. Shellomania - any entry that does not fit into any of the above classes
  8. Junior - age 12 to 16 inclusive
  9. Junior - 11 and under

Please note that entries should not exceed 4 feet in width and 2 feet in depth.
